By EEW Magazine Editors // Spiritual
If you’re anything like the average woman, you have a lot of thoughts crowding your mental space at any given moment. With so many demands on your time, tasks on your to-do list, and expectations placed upon you, it can be tough to get a handle on your thoughts.
Choosing Bible passages to train your brain and quiet the noise that adds loads of mental stress is what EEW Magazine Online is here to help you do. Here are 7 awesome Scriptures to keep your thoughts in check.
Scripture #1: “I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.” (Psalm 119:15) You become what you think about, so fix your thoughts and your eyes upon God’s word. Deliberately focus on the messages, promises, and precepts in Scripture through Bible study and prayer. The more you grow in your knowledge of word, the more you will be conformed into the image of Christ. Your thoughts and habits will change for the better.
Scripture #2: “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17) Hearing the gospel is what led you to saving faith in Christ, right? You still need to hear the gospel daily to save you from the snares and traps the enemy sets. This applies to mental stress, too! When your mind goes into overdrive and causes worrisome thoughts to increase, you need your faith to be strong. Make sure the word of God is a priority, so you can beat back worry, fear, and anxiety through the truth of the gospel.
Scripture #3: “I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands.” (Psalm 143:5) In challenging times, your mind is an expert chef; it cooks up worst-case scenarios and puts you on heightened alert. Your thoughts scream, the sky is falling! Before you let fear of what the future holds overtake you, think back on all God has done in the past, and be assured that God will come through once again!
#Scripture #4: “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.” (Psalm 139:1-2) The control freak in us can make us think that we know best, we have the answers, and we are the ones who need to figure everything out. Scripture says, however, God knows us better than we could ever know ourselves. Not only that, but He knows what is best for us. Put your trust in Him. You are in good hands!
Scripture #5: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?” (Matthew 6:25) Because it is in our nature to take care of things and make sure that all is well, this Scripture can be difficult to adhere to, because it requires faith! Faith that God will take care of you. Faith that He will provide. Faith that He will bless the fruits of your labor. Faith that He will stretch your resources. Faith that He will work things out. Use your faith, and your mind will rest.
Scripture #6: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.” (Psalm 139:23) God tests us to reveal what is inside our heads and our hearts. Since He already knows what is within, He exposes what needs work through difficult challenges. Keep this in mind the next time you find yourself thinking negative, toxic, and doubt-filled thoughts. Remember, God is taking you through a process to renew your mind, strengthen your faith, and cleanse your heart.
Your thought life matters. Do not neglect it. Rather, nourish your mind by strengthening your relationship with the word of God. That way, you can keep your thoughts in check and make sure they align with the truth of the gospel.
