After a harrowing road to parenthood, Tasha Cobbs Leonard and husband Kenneth Leonard are ecstatic to show off their baby boy, their gift from God.

Almost eight months after welcoming their adopted son Asher, the “Break Every Chain” singer, 40, and her music producer hubby are giving the public access to the details of their adoption story and debuting the first photos of their sweet baby boy in an exclusive with People.

"Asher means happy. His middle name means chosen by God, and he literally lives up to his name," said Tasha. "He wakes up laughing. He's laughing all day unless he's asleep. He loves to play."

The couple attempted to conceive via in vitro fertilization, but after a long battle with infertility, decided to adopt.

According to Kenneth, they tried to “figure out which ways would make it work,” but, “all of those ways ended up not working for us, and our faith was tested.” Despite the trying of their faith, however, the doting dad told People, “Our hearts were still open to God doing this how he chose to do it. It really strengthened our faith. Looking back, God really kept his promise to us."

The new mommy who is all smiles today had heartbreak along the way and admitted that there were “many times that we tried, and we were disappointed. But you have to have something internally that’s saying, I believe that this is what is meant for me.”

Now that Asher is part of the family, the famed songstress known for gospel smashes like “Fill Me Up,” “You Know My Name,” and “I’m Getting Ready,” said, "He is more than what we could have prayed for, so we are super excited just to watch him every day. Sometimes we look at him and say, 'This is real?'"

As real as it gets. According to People, Kenneth and Tasha were connected to a birth mother one month before she was due to give birth and were able to bring baby Asher home with them after he was born.

"If you desire a child, and you've been struggling, adoption has been beautiful for us," the beloved artist beamed. "It's literally like Asher is our blood."

Asher has three older siblings — Kenneth's children from a previous marriage — who are "so in love with their baby brother," Tasha said.

Now they all get to publicly share the joy they have felt privately. In so doing, Tasha said she hopes to inspire people to "keep their faith” in hard times.

"If you have faith for something, if you're believing for something, don't ever give up on it," she said.
