When you are seeking to honor God with your life, you have to be careful who you let advise you.

Several years ago, Gabrielle Union gave horrible advice to NBA champ Stephen Curry and cookbook author and restaurateur Ayesha Curry. And if the pair would have taken the actress’s advice, they would likely not be happily married for eight years or be the proud parents of daughters Riley Elizabeth and Ryan Carson and son Canon.

During an Instagram Live chat with her husband Dwayne Wade, 47-year-old Union revealed that she once told Stephen, 32, and Ayesha, 31, who also joined the chat, that they should break up and have sex with other people.

38-year-old Wade, a retired NBA player, said that his wife, who met the pair at a party, “was a thot in ’98.”

"I was!" the “Bring It On” star laughed. “I enjoyed my life, and that is the exact advice I gave Ayesha and a young Steph at D. Wright's 25th birthday party."

In Union’s mind, enjoying life meant plenty of fornicating and avoiding commitment – something that apparently didn’t interest Ayesha and Stephen whose romance first blossomed at Central Church of God in Charlotte, NC.

Despite their disagreement with Union’s sinful suggestion, today, they are able to laugh about it.

"It all comes out! I'm so done," said Ayesha, chuckling.

Sharing the ill-advised instructions she gave them, Union said, "I was like, 'You guys, the likelihood of this working out is very low. You should just break up now, and have sex with other people.'”

Union continued, “I used different language, but is that not what I told y'all both?"

Wade later apologized to friends Ayesha and Stephen and said, "That's not who we are anymore."

"Uh, I still might give the same advice," Union interjected, contradicting her husband’s assertion that they both had fully evolved.

Good thing the Currys are led by God’s word and not others’ opinions. And anyone looking to live a happy, productive, blessed life should avoid being swayed by advice that counters Scripture. Instead, follow the instructions given in Proverbs 3:6: “Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

During the course of the conversation, Union paid a high compliment to the Currys. She said, “You guys are unicorns. Like, literally, there are very, very few people that I’ve met who have been consistent. I’ve known you guys well over a decade, and there’s a lot of people who talk about faith, and there’s a lot of people who talk about moving the culture forward, but something isn’t real somewhere, right?”

She added, “I wish more people understood that it is possible to be people of faith and also wanting to move the culture forward. Those two things don’t have to exist separately.”

And Union is right – so long as “moving the culture forward” is not a code phrase for adapting to any type of culture that contradicts the Kingdom culture that the word of God espouses.
