God, when will it happen for me? 4 things to keep in mind while waiting

We often hear (and say), what God has for me is for me. But when what’s for you seems to be taking too long to arrive, frustration and discouragement can easily set in. You wonder, God, when will it happen for me?
While you’re waiting on God and trusting Him to be faithful to His word, as He always is, here are 4 things to keep in mind throughout the process.
#1 God doesn’t do things on your timetable: 2 Peter 3:8 NIV says, “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” Clearly, God does not run on our schedule, and what feels like a long time to us is but a short time with God. We can’t give Him ultimatums and expect the Lord to do what we want, when we want it. He operates on His own schedule because He’s sovereign. And as the old saying goes, “He may not come when you want Him, but He’ll be there right on time.”
#2 God is developing your faith walk: Romans 8: 24-25 says, “…But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.” It is impossible to wait with patience if you lose hope. Hebrews 11:1 teaches us that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things we do not yet see. When God has you in the waiting place, He is developing your faith and training you to trust Him when you are uncertain of what He’s doing. The more you hope in the Lord, the less torturous the wait will be; the more confident you are in Him, the more steadfast and stable you will be.
#3 Sometimes, your motives aren’t right. James 4:3 NLT says, “And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.” God is not into giving us what we want without making sure our character can sustain us in the place where His favor carries us. There are times when we ask God for things because we are seeking to fulfill our desires and not His will. When God doesn’t do what you want, if you renege on your commitment to Him, that reveals that you don’t want His will, you just want your way. Until His will is the primary focus of your existence, you will always ask with wrong motives and hinder the release of what you could have.
#4 Just because it hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean it won’t: You have probably heard it said a million times that delay is not denial. This isn’t just a trite statement; it is true. Scripture says in Habakkuk 2:3, “This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.” If God promised, and you walk in accordance with His will, He will do it. Just because it is slow coming doesn’t mean it’s not coming.
Truth be told, no one enjoys waiting on God to move in their situation. But if He gave us everything right away, it would destroy us. We would be spoiled, entitled brats with no discipline, instead of obedient children of God fit to be used by Him.
This wait has a purpose. Trust God who controls the times and seasons. He holds you and your destiny in the palm of His hand, and at the appointed time, He will reward your faith with manifestation.
