Pray The Word: 7 powerful Bible verses you should be adding to your prayer repertoire

Article By Barbara Jones // Bible Verses // Prayer

No one knows exactly what to say when they pray. Although sometimes we have specific requests and special things we need to ask God for, often, words fail us, and we can’t express ourselves effectively.

This is not strange; it’s normal for every believer. In fact, Scripture tells us, “We do not know what we ought to pray for,” so the Holy Spirit helps us (Romans 8:26).

If you want to strengthen your prayer life but don’t quite know how, here are 7 powerful Bible verses to incorporate into your prayers to make them more effective.

#1 Pray this daily. "This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…” (Matthew 6:9-13 NIV)

#2 Pray this when you need a quick turnaround. “Please, LORD, rescue me! Come quickly, LORD, and help me.” (Psalm 40:13 NLT)

#3 Pray this when you’re struggling to accept God’s will. "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” (Luke 22:42 NIV)

#4 Pray this to reinforce your faith and ask for guidance. “Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.” (Psalm 143:8 NLT)

#5 Pray this when you’re overwhelmed. “O God, listen to my cry! Hear my prayer! From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety,” (Psalm 61:1-2 NLT)

#6 Pray this to help you believe for greater things. “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21 KJV)

#7 Pray this for increase and deliverance. Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” (1 Chronicles 4:10 NIV)

When you pray the word of God, you can never go wrong, and you can expect God to answer! After all, He says in Jeremiah 1:12, “for I watch over my word to perform it.”
