These days, it seems like everyone is on edge. Thanks to politics and a pandemic, racism and injustice, economic instability and the future’s uncertainty, many of us are finding it a little harder to breathe lately.

During such tense and turbulent times, it’s necessary to turn to the Bible for guidance, assurance and peace. So here are 5 much-needed Scriptures to calm, comfort, and relax you despite what is going on around you.

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.” (2 Thessalonians 3:16 NIV)

The prayer contained in this verse is applicable to all believers. God will give you peace at all times, for He is with you at all times. Don’t worry.

“And he said, ‘My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.’” (Exodus 33:14 ESV)

In God’s presence there is joy, there is peace and whatever else you need to rest and exhale. Carve out time to commune with God. It will make a big difference in your day.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 ESV)

Jesus beckons believers to come to Him with problems, struggles and burdens. Whatever you can’t handle, He can. Lay your cares at His feet, and let Him take care of you.

“It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.” (Psalm 127:2 ESV)

Many of us behave like babies fighting a nap. We won’t allow ourselves to rest for fear of missing out on something. We work ourselves up into a frenzy and try to figure things out. But you need to receive God’s gift of sweet rest, because He already has the night shift covered. Go to sleep!

“The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.” (Psalm 29:11 NIV)

Others may be weak, faint, discouraged and restless at this time, but you don’t have to be. God promises to strengthen you and give you His peace that transcends your own understanding.

There are countless verses in the Bible that will equip you and assist you in getting through life’s rough patches. If you use and apply them, they will increase your peace, enrich your joy, and strengthen your faith.

And isn’t that what we all need right now?
