It was a sonic fusion of rap, soul and gospel when Hip Hop star Chance the Rapper invited solo star, Kierra Sheard, and trio, En Vogue to the Jimmy Kimmel Live! stage.

The performance, which aired on the late night talk show’s Los Angeles set Tuesday, Sep. 17, featured the 27-year-old Chicago lyricist’s single, “I Got You (Always and Forever)”—a track co-written by Sheard from Chance’s latest album, The Big Day.

“Thanks Chance the Rapper for being so bright and genuinely dope,” wrote Sheard on Instagram, expressing her appreciation for the opportunity to reach millions of people with her singing gift. “Your life is inspiring us all! Thanks for having me with you on Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

The 32-year-old, known for her dizzying riffs and insane vocal range, told Detroit Free Press that Chance, who also identifies as Christian, is a fan of her 2016 hit song, “Hang On,” and he sought her out for the album collaboration.

Sheard agreed to help out, and the pair linked for writing sessions in the Windy City where they cooked up several songs together.

The Kimmel performance was the full-circle culmination of their behind-the-scenes work.

The “Indescribable” songstress, who just wrapped her live recording in Detroit, is personally devoted to the Gospel genre, but enjoys pairing with other positive artists of various genres to inspire the masses through musical creativity.

As previously reported by EEW Magazine Online, Sheard sang a tribute to R&B sensation, Brandy Norwood—whom she calls one of her “biggest vocal inspirations”—at the 2019 R&B/Hip-Hop Awards.

It seems to be the case that, whatever door she walks through or stage she steps onto, she is confident that God is there.

“God has been with me,” she said. “I’ve been working nonstop. Open doors have come nonstop.”

Her newly-released single, “Don’t Judge Me,” features longtime family friend and rapper, Missy Elliott. Her full live album is scheduled to release in early 2020.
