Tweeter-In-Chief: President Trump gets into unfortunate war of words with John Legend and Chrissy Teigen

President Donald J. Trump is upset with two vocal social justice advocates for their failure to publicly recognize his administration’s efforts to reduce racial disparities in the criminal justice system.

The Tweeter-In-Chief hopped on his favorite social media platform to call out “boring” singer John Legend and his “foul-mouthed” wife Chrissy Teigen, setting off a war of words.

“When all of the people pushing so hard for Criminal Justice Reform were unable to come even close to getting it done, they came to me as a group and asked for my help,” wrote Trump, 73, who signed the sweeping “First Step Act” into law in December that, among other things, shortens mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent drug offenses.

Trump complained about being left out after MSNBC aired a special on criminal justice reform hosted by “NBC Nightly News” anchor, Lester Holt, who did not mention the First Step Act. Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award-winning Legend participated in the New York town hall filmed inside New York's Sing Sing prison—thus putting him in the president’s crosshairs.

An offended Trump noted, “I got it done with a group of Senators and others who would never have gone for it. Obama couldn’t come close,” then added, “Republicans deserve much credit. But now that it is passed, people that had virtually nothing to do with it are taking the praise—guys like boring musician John Legend, and his filthy-mouthed wife, are talking now about how great it is - but I didn’t see them around when we needed help getting it passed.”

The temperamental leader, who says he is a Christian, further chided Holt, 60, for omitting his efforts from the “Justice For All” investigation series on criminal justice reform.

While Trump has passed major legislation in favor of a more equitable system that will impact minorities in a positive way, he brought attention to this the wrong way—by name-calling, insulting and belittling those he deems adversaries.

Legend and Teigen, fierce critics and sworn enemies of Trump, did not go silent after catching wind of the insult. They hit back with equal force.

“Imagine being president of a whole country and spending your Sunday night hate-watching MSNBC hoping somebody--ANYBODY--will praise you,” tweeted Legend. And since Trump pulled the musician’s wife into the conversation, Legend, 40, followed suit, saying, “Melania, please praise this man. He needs you.”

Teigen, 33, whose response was a lot less gracious, called the Commander-In-Chief a vulgar name that EEW Magazine Online will not re-post. She also asked her Twitter supporters to make the lewd insult trend. The whole thing devolved into an ugly, sordid mess, with others hopping on the bandwagon.

In an interview with USA Today, Teigen said, "I've actually been a big Donald Trump hater. I've been trolling him for about five to seven years now. I've been doing this forever, and I take pride in that."

The disgruntled president concluded his Twitter tirade by saying, “They only talk about the minor players, or people that had nothing to do with it, and the people that so desperately sought my help when everyone else had failed. All they talk about now is Impeaching President Trump!”
