GRAMMY® Award-winning gospel singer, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, has been candid about her long battle with depression, but today, she says she’s in “such a great space.”

According to the “You Know My Name” songstress, this positive shift is a result of newfound self-love, self-acceptance and a strong sense of self-worth.

“There’s such a freedom that comes with loving yourself, accepting who you are and embracing your purpose,” wrote the 38-year-old worship leader on Instagram.

Admittedly, being self-affirming is no easy task in a vain, harsh, cold society that scrutinizes, criticizes and pits us against each other, acknowledges Cobbs Leonard.

The inspirational author of Thoughts from Tasha’s Couch, writes, “We live in a world where there is constant pressure to compete and compare.”

Still, she says, “There is a place spiritually and a space mentally where all of the pressures cease. There is a place where the validation of man can’t compete with the realization of self-worth!”

There was a time when even she could not personally reach that mental and spiritual altitude.

In 2016, Cobbs Leonard opened up to Essence about crying, being deeply depressed and spending days beneath the covers with curtains drawn, feeling unlovable, unwanted and unappreciated. She said she told herself things like: “Nobody wants you; they only want you for your gifts; they only want you for your talents. People only want you for what you have to offer but nobody is giving back to you.”

But after praying, exercising her faith and seeing a therapist who clinically diagnosed her depression, the globally revered worshiping sensation and vocalist extraordinaire regained her footing, and has been thriving ever since.

Finally, Cobbs Leonard enthusiastically tells her supporters, “I am happy with the me God created me to be. I’ve not always been here, but I’m so glad I made it. I can feel God setting me up for next.”

To those yet struggling with self-love and self-acceptance as she once was, she writes, “My prayer for each of you is that you find rest in being YOU! It’s a peaceful place!

It is indeed.
