Single and Saved: 6 powerful things taking yourself on solo dates will teach you
Article By Monica Tate // EEW Magazine // Singles
Who says single women should be sitting around the house, moping, feeling sorry for themselves, and counting down the hours until “Boaz” finds them? Oh, please. This is not the way to do it!
If you haven’t taken yourself out on a solo date, treated yourself, and given yourself some much-needed TLC, start right away. When you do, here are 6 powerful lessons it will teach you.
#1- It teaches you confidence. If you lack confidence when you’re on your own, a relationship won’t magically fix that boo. Solo dates will make you feel more self-assured and reinforce that you don’t need a man’s validation to feel good about you. The only man with power to validate you is Jesus, the lover of your soul.
#2- It teaches you not to wait for someone else to make you happy. Sulking and adopting a woe-is-me attitude during your season of singleness is a bad practice. If you’re not happy with yourself from the start, that won’t change when “Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome” waltzes into your world. Sis, you are already complete in Christ, and you have everything you need to lead a joyful and fulfilling life.
#3- It teaches you to be comfortable being alone. Show me a clingy girlfriend or wife, and I’ll show you a woman that never learned to be comfortable on her own. Don’t be that person. By normalizing solo dates right now, it will improve your future experience in relationships—both platonic and romantic. Whenever “the one” arrives on the scene, when he is busy, immersed in his work, or unable to make you the center of his world, you will be just fine.
#4- It teaches you greater independence. Women need to know how to do things on their own. It’s necessary for our survival. So plan your own vacations, spend them by yourself, tour unfamiliar places, and focus on self-development. You will become more powerful, self-motivated, driven, and capable of doing more with less help. Greater independence is healthy for everyone—single or not.
#5- It teaches you what your relationship standards should be. When you treat yourself well, you’ll naturally expect your future man to do the same. As you go on solo dates, when you can, splurge on yourself. Buy yourself flowers and gifts that make you smile. You’re no ordinary woman. You are extraordinary, extra special, and worthy of the best treatment. By giving yourself the time, attention, and love you deserve, your relationship standards will be higher—as they should be.
#6-It teaches you patience. As a single woman, it is true that solo dates will sometimes make you long for a companion. Let’s not pretend. When you feel this longing, though unpleasant at times, it will force you to pray, rely on God, and trust Him for the patience you need to endure. “But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently” (Romans 8:25 NIV).
While others plan their “bae-cation,” confidently plan your solo vacation. When you live your life to the fullest, even without a ring on your finger, you’ll feel amazing.
And by the time he shows up, well, he will only elevate your already incredible life!
