Stay In Peace: 7 Scriptures to keep you mentally, emotionally, and spiritually peaceful

One of the most important tools in your fight for mental health is the Bible; it is full of hope, encouragement, and strength-building messages.
EEW Magazine Online asked our readers battling depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and other personality disorders, to share their favorite go-to scriptures to preserve their peace.
We received answers from more than 40 women. We discovered in their answers that 7 recurring verses are most commonly used to help them stay strong and peaceful, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
When you feel like you are almost at your wit’s end, don’t let anxiety rob you of peace. Pray. Seek God. He will comfort and calm you.
John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
Jesus said don’t let your heart be troubled, meaning don’t allow troubling things to trouble you. The only way to prevent that from happening is by tapping into divine peace through studying Scripture and communing with God.
Jonah 2:5-7
“The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God. When my life was fainting away, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.”
When Jonah, who disobeyed God, found himself in a bad, desperate, miserable place, he still prayed and found strength to endure. You can do the same thing. Whether your struggle is your fault or not, you can find refuge in the Savior just the same.
Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Your thoughts are seeds that will produce fruit. If negativity is what you meditate on, your emotions and spirit will be full of chaos and confusion. Focus on good things. The outcome will be much more positive.
John 16:33
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
You will have trouble. Jesus said so. But He reminds you that He has conquered everything that could ever come against you. So you have victory, even when you don’t feel like it. Rest in that.
John 1:5
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Emotional stress takes you to a dark place mentally, spiritually and emotionally. But when you tap into resources available to you in God’s word, His light chases the darkness away!
Proverbs 31:25
“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.”
A woman who has a strong relationship with God has such peace that she can laugh and be joyful in times of uncertainty. No matter what comes her way, her foundation is solid, because it is built upon Christ, the Rock.
Whatever your preferred Scriptures are, during your hardest times, be sure to read them, rehearse them, meditate on them, and apply them to your situation. The word of God is active, alive, powerful (Proverbs 31:25) and an effective way to fight for your mental, emotional, and spiritual peace and stability.
