“‘I have the right to do anything,’ you say—but not everything is beneficial.” (1 Corinthians 6:12 NIV)
You can do anything you want. You are grown. But doing just anything certainly won’t get you to the place you want to be. In order to maximize your potential, live life to the fullest, and be a role model to others, there are specific choices you must make.
One of the surest ways to make positive changes and live your best life is to examine your habits which are repeated behaviors that produce results, good or bad.
If you’re interested in improving your overall well-being, EEW Magazine Online suggests developing these 5 habits.
HABIT 1: Expand your thinking with a book. Those who lead must continuously grow. The only way to do this is by expanding your thinking, seeking out new ideas and perspectives, and learning about the world. While the Bible is our ultimate roadmap, God uses other resources by insightful authors to inspire and propel you to new levels. Invest time in researching and reading various books. You’ll be amazed by how much your life will be enriched.
HABIT 2: Mind the business that pays you. Unproductive people mind everyone else’s business, while productive people mind their own. Frivolous gossiping and digging into people’s personal lives in search of salacious details does not benefit you one iota. On the other hand, it pays off when you focus on who and what God has called you to be. Therefore, expend your energy, time and resources working on you, developing your ideas, using your talents, and going after the dreams God has placed in your heart. Only then will you reap the rewards and returns of hard work.
HABIT 3: Guard your time. Use your time wisely, use your yeses sparingly, and choose opportunities judiciously. How you spend your time determines how far you will go. Wasting your time is wasting your life. That’s why, saying no more often than not will benefit you in the long run. Sometimes, you have to say no to others to say yes to yourself and your personal mission. Every opportunity is not for you. So it’s okay to be protective of your space and in full control of how you spend the precious, invaluable moments of every day.
HABIT 4: Journal your thoughts. If you don’t write down your thoughts and ideas somewhere, you will eventually lose them. What a shame that would be! Being able to revisit important life lessons, principles, plans—even mistakes or negative emotions—from the past can inform you and empower you to do better in the future. You may be surprised by how reading about an impactful quote, life experience, victory or failure you had forgotten about could turn out to be just what you needed years later to guide you on your journey. Write down your thoughts!
HABIT 5: Learn new skills. Use every opportunity and resource available to you to grow and develop. The world is changing rapidly, and we must change and adapt with it. This requires updating our skill set and learning new things. Maybe you’re bad with technology, but it could help take your business, career, or ministry to the next level. Take the initiative to learn using free tutorials or coaching. Maybe you’re a designer, educator, pastor, or homemaker. Whoever you are and whatever you do, there are always useful methods and techniques to make you better and more effective.
Your habits determine your future destiny, so choose and develop them prayerfully and carefully.
