Former first lady Michelle Obama is showing off her affection for her two furry family members in honor of National Dog Day.

On Monday, Aug. 26, she gave Bo and Sunny an Instagram shout-out, proclaiming that she loves the two Portuguese water dogs.

"Whether they’re cuddling up with me on the couch or rolling around in the backyard, I love these two balls of fur,” wrote the New York Times best-selling author of Becoming.

The beloved 55-year-old Christian author, wife and mother, who recently made Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential” list, often speaks fondly of the Obama family’s dogs. In a sit-down chat with actress Sarah Jessica Parker at Barclays Center, Mrs. Obama discussed how Sunny and Bo are adjusting to life outside the White House.

According to her, upon moving into a “regular” house, when the dogs heard the ding-dong sound of a doorbell, this was jolting since this was not something they heard at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

“Bo and Sunny were like, ‘What’s that?’” Obama told Parker. “They’re just now going to the door when the doorbell rings. It’s taken them two years. It’s the door, people are coming.”

Bo was gifted to the Obama family in 2008 after former President Obama won the election. Sunny was added to the family in August 2013. The water dog breed was specifically chosen because of its  hypoallergenic fur, as not to cause daughter Malia Obama’s sensitive allergies to flare up.

If the saying is true that “all dogs go to the heaven,” well, they will meet their Jesus-loving owners in glory one day.

Ha!
