Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is telling her supporters that dreams really do become reality.
The 52-year-old shared the news on social media that she is fulfilling her dream of joining CNN and is ecstatic about the new opportunity.
“I am thrilled to officially announce that I have joined CNN as a Political Commentor,” said Bottoms who also shared that when she was a student at Florida A&M University, she applied for the “coveted VJ program at CNN and didn’t get in.”
The influential leader, who was named one of Ebony Magazine’s Power 100, continued, “To now join the team nearly 30 years later is a reminder that a dream deferred is never a dream denied.”
Amen to that.
The lawyer, who served as the 60th mayor of Atlanta from 2018 to 2022 was a guest on CNN and other cable news shows throughout the pandemic and 2020 election cycle. Now viewers will regularly see her face along with other CNN political commentators, Van Jones and Ana Navarro.
Before becoming mayor, Bottoms was a member of the Atlanta City Council, representing part of Southwest Atlanta. Currently, she serves as vice chair of civic engagement and voter protection for the Democratic National Committee.
She is also set to be the first honorary fellow of the HBCU Executive Leadership Institute—a a new effort at Clark Atlanta University to prepare participants to become leaders of historically Black colleges and universities.
Bottoms opted not to run for re-election last year which proved a surprising move from the longtime Biden ally who had previously turned down the top job at the Small Business Administration.
It appears that she has discovered exactly where she wants to be.
