Tamera Mowry-Housley recently announced that she is leaving her daytime talker, The Real, after seven years of co-hosting. The Christian actress said she desires to spend more time with her family and pursue other opportunities – a decision we applaud.

In a society where women feel increasing pressure to put on a superhero cape, do it all, and appear flawless while doing so, the 42-year-old wife and mother has chosen to scale back, prioritize her family, and do what makes her happy.

Though every woman does not have the luxury, privilege or desire to resign from work and adopt a more family-oriented lifestyle, those who do should be praised for living their truth and honoring their own needs which is something women don’t do nearly enough.

In a July 13 social media post, the “Sister, Sister” star wrote, "For seven years, my home and heart has been at The Real. The friendships I've made there will last a lifetime, and the people that I've been blessed to interview have changed my life for the better."

She added, “I look forward to spending more time with my family, pursuing amazing new opportunities, and embarking on the next chapter of my life.”

Soon after Mowry-Housley publicized her decision to say goodbye to her post alongside fellow co-hosts, Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon and Jeannie Mai, some speculated online that her exit was due to contractual disputes with The Real. But she shot down this rumor in a since-deleted Instagram Live conversation with her husband, Adam Housley.

“I’m going to say this once. I’ve explained it. I’ve been on The Real for six, seven years,” she said. “I’m just ready to just try new opportunities and spend more time with my family. That’s it. I am doing a Hallmark film. There’s new opportunities kind of just popping up out of nowhere, and I’m just grateful, grateful, grateful.”

Speaking of gratefulness, the star said in a July 28 Instagram post, “I’m so grateful to be surrounded by so much love and support” – a sentiment she expressed in the caption of a black and white photograph uploaded as part of the popular #challengeaccepted movement that celebrates women supporting other women.

During Mowry-Housley’s time on The Real, she enjoyed and leaned on the support of her coworkers and loved ones, as she sometimes struggled to balance motherhood and work. “As a working mom, I definitely struggle to find the balance,” she said in 2014, during the early stages of the show, adding, “I have to believe that I’m not the only working mom that’s hard on myself.”

Six years later, she is taking steps to make things a bit easier by giving up her intense day job and accepting roles that fit more perfectly into her working mommy lifestyle.

Anytime we see a sister doing what she needs to do to honor God, herself and her family, we say, kudos!
