More than 150 recovering addicts, survivors of domestic abuse, and formerly incarcerated women, received ministry services, resources, and gifts from First Lady Dianna Hobbs, and the women’s department of City Church Buffalo this weekend.

Hobbs, an award-winning Christian media specialist and women’s ministry leader, teamed with various charitable organizations, nonprofits, and individual donors to meet the practical and spiritual needs of hurting women around Western, NY.

“The turnout was astounding,” said a ministry rep in a statement.

“Seeing those in recovery and transition, who have been in survival mode most of their lives, receive the help, love, and tangible support they need, was a thing of beauty,” said the rep, adding, “There were women of different races, ethnicities and backgrounds witnessing firsthand what real ministry looks like. That’s something Dianna Hobbs is passionate about, and the overwhelming support of the event says others are equally passionate about that cause as well.”

The Women’s Weekend, which took place Saturday and Sunday, May 25th-26th, in Buffalo, NY, was themed “Women Helping Women,” based on 1 Peter 4:10: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

First Lady Hobbs, who is a well-known ambassador of women and a generous philanthropist, has been working to pull the Women’s Weekend together since 2018. “What took place exceeded everyone’s expectations,” said the ministry rep. “Most importantly, God was glorified and His people were edified.”

City Church Buffalo is one of the fastest growing ministries in Western NY, as it employs a nontraditional approach to ministry. City Church deploys impact teams around the city and region, to take ministry outside the four walls of the church onto college campuses, community organizations, event centers, hospitals, and individual homes, known as micro sites or cell ministries.

“We meet people where they are, and the journey has been transformative,” said the spokesperson.

In addition to worship services, Bible studies, and community outreach events, City Church runs a successful literacy program for urban children, grades K-3, to address their educational needs, and position them for future success.

“This ministry is modeled after the life of Jesus. We administer life through the word and demonstrate what it looks like when the word of God is put in action,” said the rep.

Pastor Kenya and First Lady Dianna Hobbs took on the role of church leaders in 2017.
