Good Deeds: Ministry leader and philanthropist Dianna Hobbs keeping homeless warm during polar vortex

(EEW Newswire) Before the polar vortex ever hit, causing temperatures to plunge across the U.S., women’s ministry leader, Dianna Hobbs, was already obeying a divine unction to collect hats, scarves, gloves, coats, and warm clothing to donate to the homeless.

Her “Do Good On Purpose” campaign, which she launched in 2018, through Empowering Everyday Women Ministries and City Church Buffalo, continues to provide the much-needed gift of warmth to those without shelter.

“When God first led me to help the homeless last year, at the time, it wasn’t very cold outside at all. But in obedience to Him, I got to work. I knew the drop in temperatures was coming,” said the well-known philanthropist and first lady of City Church, 42, in a statement.

Hobbs continued, “I believe that we, as the Body of Christ, should be the hands and feet of Jesus, and not just preach the Gospel, but be an example of what the Gospel looks like in action.”

Hobbs, who heads up numerous campaigns and global charitable initiatives says she believes in “giving to others out of both our abundance, and our need, because God’s heart beats for those who are overlooked and cast aside.”

The best-selling author and award-winning media specialist says her guiding scripture is James 2:16: “If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?” (NIV)

In Upstate New York where Hobbs lives with her husband Kenya, pastor of City Church, and the couple’s four children, a State of Emergency has been issued for the entire County by Buffalo’s mayor, Byron W. Brown.

“We remain concerned with the blowing and drifting snow that at times creates white out conditions,” Brown said during a press conference. “Tomorrow the temperatures will be even lower with the wind chill, and there will be extreme bitter cold that will be hazardous to people’s health with any prolonged exposure.”

A Code Blue for the homeless has also been issued for the purpose of directing those without shelter to warming stations in the city.

“We thank God for what we have been able to do to help out,” said Valerie Hopkins, a campaign volunteer and supporter. “We are praying that God grants us the grace to do even more.”
