Oprah said she asked God about running for president but hasn't gotten an answer yet

Media Mogul Oprah Winfrey is being pressured to seriously consider a run for the office of president in 2020. But the only way she’ll do it, she says, is if she hears from God.

“I went into prayer,” the 64-year-old A Wrinkle in Time star told PEOPLE in a new cover story.

With friends, colleagues and influential leaders calling for her to step up, the Oprah Winfrey Network CEO said, “’God, if you think I’m supposed to run, you gotta tell me, and it has to be so clear that not even I can miss it.’”

So far, she told the glossy, “I haven’t gotten that.”

Oprah sent the Internet into a tizzy on the evening the 2018 Golden Globes aired. Her powerful Cecil B. DeMille Award acceptance speech, speaking out against sexual harassment and assault against women, brought Hollywood’s biggest stars to their feet, and left them wiping away tears.

Many say it is one of the greatest speeches of all time, but Oprah didn’t think it would have the kind of impact it has. “When I walked off with Reese [Witherspoon], I thought, ‘I got that done,’” she told PEOPLE. “It wasn’t until I was back in the press room that they said, ‘Do you realize you’re trending?’”

Among those urging her to challenge Donald J. Trump is her longtime best friend, Gayle King, and the wealthiest in the nation.

“I had people—wealthy, billionaires—calling me up and saying, ‘I can get you a billion dollars. I can run your campaign,” she revealed. “That many people saying something made me think, ‘Am I at least supposed to look at the question?’”

For now, Oprah, who is open about her Christian faith, said she is waiting on heaven’s response. If God never says yes, neither will she.
