It’s always exciting to see someone take a problematic property and turn it into a pristine living space far more vibrant and beautiful than it was before, right? The good news is, God is ready, willing and able to help you repair, renew, and rebuild your spiritual house.
It is highly recommended that every believer makes consistent renovations, improvements and upgrades to the mind, soul and spirit. By the power of the Holy Spirit, your amazing makeover is within reach, so let’s get started.
Here are 5 ways to help you get your house in order with a much-needed renovation.
1. Begin with you: Sometimes, our homes need renovation due to years of neglect and lack of repairs. In Isaiah 58:11-12, God called His people back to fasting and prayer, and assured them that as they communed with Him, He would empower them to renovate what was broken down. Verse 12 says, “Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes.” If you want restoration and repair, begin with you. How? By strengthening your relationship with God. This will position you to make the necessary changes to improve your life.
2. Move it out: 2 Corinthians 6:17 says, “Therefore, ‘Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord...’" Naturally speaking, during a renovation, you remove the old things that no longer serve a purpose in the home and are merely taking up space. Spiritually speaking, get rid of any sinful habits, relationships or activities that continue to clutter your life, hinder your growth and waste your time. If something no longer adds value to your spiritual property and stops you from being all you can be for God, move it out. This is sometimes painful and difficult, but necessary.
3. Knock down walls: In home renovations, often homeowners will knock out walls that confine their space. Getting rid of those barriers opens up the area more. Isn’t it high time you do this in your walk of faith? In Joshua 6:1–27, the walls of Jericho, which were keeping the Israelites out of their land of promise, came tumbling down when they marched around by faith. Similarly, if there are walls standing in the way of your blessings, breakthroughs and promises, exercise your faith during your spiritual renovation. Watch those walls fall flat! God will open up new territory for you and you will possess God’s promises. Believe it!
4. Motivate yourself: Holistic renovations take lots of work and time, which is why the average person may feel too discouraged and inept to take on such a big project—both naturally and spiritually. But you know what? You can do it! Motivate yourself by confessing Philippians 4:13 over your life, which says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” If you are willing to learn, as well as commit to the work and submit to God, you’ll be astounded by the progress you’ll make. Sometimes you have to encourage yourself!
5. Keep the right mindset: When you are serious about making changes, even when the work is extensive, the right frame of mind can push you forward when you would otherwise give up. For example, when Nehemiah returned to his homeland, Jerusalem, it was all broken down. Things were terrible. But he and the Jews, despite all of the obstacles before them, were able to renovate the city for a reason Nehemiah 4:6 specifies. It tells us, “So we built the wall. And all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.” See that? They had a mind to work. Do you?
Renovations are necessary for all of us. So take these 5 scripture-based tips to heart, and apply them. One day, you’ll look back in awe of how God made something so beautiful out of your life, all because you yielded to His will and hung in there through the process.
Happy renovating!
