The heavy burdens of work stress, financial pressures, sickness, relationship challenges and uncertainty about the future can produce fearfulness within you.
It’s normal to feel somewhat anxious when life throws the worst at you, which is why you must prepare to fight fear with the word of God.
If you find yourself in a situation that appears hopeless, scary and too difficult to handle, use these 5 scriptures to help you boldly trust God. As you attach your faith to each verse, you will become braver, more confident and optimistic about the outcome.
2 Timothy 1:7 NLT
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
Whenever you feel paralyzed by fear and terrified about what may happen next, know that these strong negative emotions are not from God. Resist the enemy’s efforts to terrorize you with toxic thoughts and worst-case-scenarios. Tap into the power God has given you!
Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."
You don’t have to worry because you’re never alone. Even when you’re walking through deep, dark valleys, God is with you and will never leave. Remind yourself of this fact when you can’t feel the Lord’s presence near you, so you can beat back discouragement and fearfulness.
Isaiah 41:13 NIV
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you.”
God is holding your hand and assisting you every step of the way. Through all the twists and turns of life, lean on Him, as your refuge and savior, and you will come out victoriously. When trouble persists and you’re pushed beyond what feels like your limit, imagine the hand of God clenching your hand and guiding you to safety. He is surely there.
Psalm 34:4 NIV
“I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
Whenever fear shows up, invite God to show up. Do what this powerful psalm says and seek the Lord. When you do, you will have the same testimony—that God delivered you from all your fears. Worry, doubt stress and anxiousness cannot survive in the presence of God.
Mark 4:39-41 NIV
“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, ‘Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?’”
The same Jesus that rebuked the threatening storm in Bible days, has power over your storm—no matter how forceful it is. When problems and issues invade your life with the strength of a mighty hurricane, no worrying is necessary because Jesus only needs to speak a word and the storm must cease.
The word of God is the perfect cure for fear. It helps you call to mind who you are in God and and to remember that the greatest power of all lives within!
