In a world buzzing with talk of vibrations and chakras, can Christians find harmony with these frequencies?

As Christians, we're called to be mindful of the ideas and language we adopt. One concept that's gained popularity among some people of faith is the notion of "high vibration" and "low vibration," rooted in the belief that everything, including humans, possesses a vibrational frequency.

While this idea promises better health and spiritual growth through maintaining a higher vibration, it's essential to understand its origins and consider its alignment with our Christian beliefs.

The concept of vibrational energies traces back to ancient philosophies like Hinduism and Buddhism, which emphasize energy centers (chakras) and the flow of energy (prana, chi).

In the 20th century, New Age spirituality began borrowing from quantum physics, suggesting everything is energy vibrating at different frequencies. The New Age movement of the 1970s and 1980s, through authors like Deepak Chopra and Esther Hicks, further popularized this idea, blending it with self-help and spiritual growth.

Some key figures have influenced this concept. Nikola Tesla, a renowned scientist, is often quoted in New Age circles: "If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration."

Deepak Chopra, an Indian-American author and alternative medicine advocate, also played a significant role in popularizing these ideas. Chopra's affiliation with Oprah Winfrey in the 1990s helped bring his teachings on mind-body connections and vibrational energy to mainstream American audiences. His work blends principles from Ayurveda, a traditional Indian system of medicine, with modern concepts of quantum physics.

Another significant figure is Esther Hicks, an American inspirational speaker and author. Alongside her husband Jerry, she has co-written several books and presented numerous workshops on the Law of Attraction through Abraham-Hicks Publications. Hicks claims to channel a collective consciousness called "Abraham," through which she discusses the importance of maintaining a high vibration to attract positive experiences.

But how do these concepts align with our Christian faith? Christianity is based on Biblical teachings, which focus on our relationship with God, sin, salvation, and moral living. New Age beliefs often involve practices like meditation, energy healing, and the Law of Attraction, which differ from Christian emphases on prayer, repentance, and faith in Jesus Christ. Christians seek spiritual growth through the Holy Spirit, prayer, and scripture, rather than manipulating vibrational frequencies.

As 1 Thessalonians 5:21 advises, "Test everything; hold fast what is good," we must thoughtfully examine the ideas we integrate into our lives. The concept of vibrational energies, while promising, is largely a product of New Age thought and often conflicts with traditional Christian beliefs and practices.

As we explore ideas for personal and spiritual growth, let's anchor ourselves in Scripture and discern whether these concepts align with our faith.

In a world filled with diverse philosophies and teachings, our North Star remains Jesus Christ and the timeless wisdom of the Bible. As we navigate the popular idea of vibrational energies, let's engage with grace, test all things, and hold fast to what is good and true.
