Martha Munizzi stormed her way into the hearts of Black Gospel music fans with captivating songs like "God Is Here," "Glorious," "Because of Who You Are," and "Excellent."
Now, the Grammy, Dove, and Stellar Award-winning worship leader, singer-songwriter, and recording artist has been inducted into the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame. The honor was bestowed on Saturday, June 8, at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.
“When I started writing songs years ago, I never ever thought in a million years that something like this would happen,” Munizzi wrote in an appreciative Instagram post. “All I can say is that I am so humbled and grateful for all that God is doing for me and my family!”
In a more formal statement addressing the honor, Munizzi, one of Gospel music’s best-selling independent artists, said, “I am deeply honored and humbled to have been chosen for such a prestigious honor of induction into the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame. To be chosen among the amazing women whose songs and lyrics have impacted the world is a dream come true. I'm so grateful for this incredible honor.”
Munizzi, 56, was enshrined alongside Crystal Waters, Angie Stone, Soon Hee Newbold, Maria Callas, and Allee Willis (posthumously).
For decades, Munizzi’s songs have united Christians of all races, ages, and ethnicities in corporate worship and times of personal devotion. Her charisma, anointing, and powerful melodies and lyrics have won the hearts of worshipers on multiple continents.
One of her most memorable breakout hits, 2002’s "Because of Who You Are," immediately became a mainstay in worship services around the world, fueling Munizzi’s rise to prominence as a notable worship leader able to lead audiences to God through song.
Munizzi serves the members of EpicLife Church in Orlando, Florida, where she co-pastors with her husband, Dan. Her cross-cultural and multigenerational impact continues to grow through her music, books, and daily inspiration.
