New mom Tamron Hall shares her IVF struggles and encourages others battling infertility

First-time mom, Tamron Hall, is glowing since giving birth to her son Moses at age 48 thanks to In Vitro Fertilization. But she wants to make it clear that the road wasn’t easy.
The host of her own eponymous daytime talk show is getting deeply personal about her “many failed rounds” of IVF and offering encouragement to other women hoping and praying to become moms someday.
“I know through my own experiences of my many failed rounds that it does not always have a happy ending,” Hall, whose baby boy is 4 months old, told SheKnows.
“What’s hard is when you tell people and it fails. They’re on that tangential journey with you. It’s a long process. It’s not like you get blood work and the next day you have answers, and friends who know ask, ‘How did it go this time?’ And when a round doesn’t work and you’re mourning, friends who love you will have to mourn as well.”
Not wanting others to ride the same emotional roller coaster she and her husband were on, the former “Today” show co-anchor said, “For that reason, my husband and I decided to keep it private. To watch a family member cry with you, it adds to pressure and adds to sadness, and by keeping it private, it’s a way of insulating your heart.”
Hall did not break the joyful news on Instagram until March 4, at 32 weeks along, when her doctor said she was in a “safe place.”
When time came to share, she did it with a flair!
Wearing a white dress and a big smile, the then expectant mother was pictured rubbing her pregnant belly, and captioning the photo, “There have been many tears, but today I embrace the smiles. My husband Steven and I are beyond excited! We're in constant prayer, so if you pray, add us to your list.”
Those prayers paid off.
But while still in the throes of battle against infertility, Hall told SheKnows, “There were mornings I’d get in a car at 6 a.m. to get blood work done and my husband was ready and willing to go with me but I said, ‘I got this.’ And then halfway through the trip in the Uber, I’d be crying by myself, even though I said I’d be fine.’ It starts to seep into your mind and you have weak moments, and that was jarring to me. That’s why I wanted to double down on that feeling that you’re not alone.”

To remove the shame and stigma, and help women who are on their own IVF journey, she is bringing the candid discussion to the “Tamron Hall” Show Monday with guests Kenya Moore of The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Gretchen Rossi of The Real Wives of Orange County—both IVF success stories.
“This is affecting millions of parents-to-be,” Hall noted. “This is a family conversation. This does not have geography, it’s not a northern or southern thing, or a black or white thing. It’s not even a male or female thing — often it’s the man who’s having fertility trouble. It’s a layered topic. And it doesn’t always work out. I wish this would have a 100-percent success rate but that’s not reality.”
To those still on their personal journeys, Hall said, “Just remember, everyone’s body is different. Don’t compare yourself to someone else’s results.”
She added, “Find a team of doctors you’re comfortable with that will answer your most paranoid questions — you will have them. That, to me, is a sign of a good team.”
