Following weeks of national protests since the death of George Floyd, President Donald Trump signed an executive order on policing that would encourage better police practices and establish a database to keep track of officers with a history of excessive use-of-force complaints.

A black pastor who was attacked by five racists and pulled out a gun during the incident was arrested when he called the police on his attackers. But the charges have since been dropped against him, and his white attackers have been charged with hate crimes.

Minneapolis agreed Friday to ban chokeholds by police and to require officers to try to stop any other officers they see using improper force, in the first concrete steps to remake the city’s police department since George Floyd’s death.
