TikTok resurrects '90s era LaShun Pace gospel song ‘Act Like You Know’

All it takes is a TikTok trend to make an old song new again. This time, a ‘90s era gospel song is getting the all-star social media treatment, and gospel fans are loving it!
LaShun Pace’s 1996 single, “Act Like You Know” has gone ultra-viral thanks to Internet actors creating comical skits where they use the lyrics to highlight the obvious, reveal secrets, expose feigned ignorance, or call out those who are oblivious to what should be well known.
While some of the themes of the #ActLikeYouKnow videos may be deemed taboo and inappropriate for the gospel community, that has not stopped diversity—even exploration of the risqué—among participants.
Even so, longtime supporters of The Anointed Pace Sisters and gospel fans like EEW reader, Dee Dee Hall, are over the moon that a gospel song is getting widespread attention.
“I have loved LaShun Pace and The Pace Sisters for decades,” said Hall, who reached out to EEW Magazine Online editors about the viral tune. “So many times, gospel songs are overlooked, and I couldn’t be more pleased to see this one touching the world.”
We received many more ecstatic messages just like this one.
“Act Like You Know,” currently trending on TikTok, is the 1996 song from LaShun Pace of The Anointed Pace Sisters.
“The #ActLikeYouKnow trend is especially big among African American users,” Chole Siovan, a social media analyst, told EEW Magazine Online. “The rich gospel heritage within the Black community frequently spills over to social media and creates a unique opportunity for Christian songs, both old and new, to gain unprecedented exposure.”
TikTok, formerly Musical.ly, was named 2021’s #1 most downloaded app globally with over 1 billion users. In fact, many of last year’s most massive mainstream hits owe a large part of their success to their virality on TikTok.
