David Mann uses the Bible as a ‘litmus test’ to love Tamela Mann God’s way

David Mann uses the word of God as a “litmus test” to ensure he loves his bride like Christ loves His bride. No wonder he and Tamela Mann are so strong!
The happy couple is generously sharing a six-day devotional—Us Against the World: Biblical Love— through YouVersion Bible app that’s chock full of biblically-inspired principles responsible for nurturing and strengthening their 31-year union.
“When I think about my love for Tamela, the Scripture that comes to mind is 1 Corinthians 13:4–7,” writes David, 53, in the Bible app that has been downloaded on more than 330 million devices and in every country of the world. “We use these verses as the litmus test to make sure we are loving one another the way God wants us to love.”
The Manns, award-winning singers, actors, and entrepreneurs, are often in the spotlight. But David, who plays Mr. Brown in Tyler Perry’s stage plays and films alongside Tamela who plays Cora, says, “Real love shines brightest when the lights are off.”
The Tillymann Music co-founders have stolen the hearts of America as their hearts remain loyal to each other. For those wondering how to replicate their success in love, David says it doesn’t happen overnight.
“Love is a habit that we learn and grow into. Loving someone is about sacrifice and selflessness,” says David who wed his 53-year-old bride in 1988.
No matter what happens, good or bad, David believes, “True love will still be there after hair starts falling out or when the extra weight starts packing on. True love can survive the test of time because it is about seeing, serving, and choosing to uplift your spouse.”
In July, David uplifted the “Take Me to the King” singer after her double knee replacement surgery. He kept her laughing through tears and smiling through excruciating pain.
EEW Magazine Online’s editorial director Rebecca Johnson says of the devotional, “Readers will benefit from Us Against the World: Biblical Love because the devotions are sound and Scripture-based, which is EEW Online’s ‘litmus test’ for recommendations.”
The devotions are lifted from the Manns’ co-authored book, Us Against the World.
