The federal government is poised to adopt a policy recognizing only two sexes—male and female—in alignment with a Scriptural view of creation under an executive order expected to be signed by former President Donald Trump.
This perspective reflects the biblical account in Genesis 1:27, which states, “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.”
The order would reverse measures introduced under the Biden administration that expanded gender identity options, including the ability to select “X” as a gender marker on U.S. passports.
“As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female,” Trump declared during his inaugural address Monday. The executive order represents one of his campaign promises to address gender identity policy, a topic of growing cultural and political debate.
A Trump administration official, speaking to reporters Monday, described the order as a measure to “defend women from gender ideology extremism and restore biological truths to the federal government.” The official added that the terms “male” and “female” are “immutable biological classifications, grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.”
Under the policy, all federal agencies will transition from using the term “gender” to “sex,” with “sex” being defined as an individual’s unchangeable biological status. Federal agencies will also be directed to ensure that official documents, including passports, visas, and employee records, reflect sex accurately. Additionally, departments overseeing federal prisons, migrant shelters, and other single-sex spaces will be required to protect privacy by maintaining distinct male and female areas.
“Agencies are no longer going to promote gender ideology through communication forms and other messages,” the official noted. Federal grants and contracts will also be reviewed to ensure compliance with the executive order, preventing federal funds from being used to promote gender ideology.
The order effectively dismantles policies introduced by the Biden administration aimed at broadening gender identity recognition. As of 2022, U.S. citizens have been permitted to select “X” as their gender marker on passports, without requiring medical documentation or alignment with other identification documents.
“We promote the freedom, dignity, and equality of all people—including LGBTQI+ individuals,” the State Department’s website states, highlighting the administration’s commitment to inclusivity.
Trump’s executive order has drawn praise from some who view it as a return to foundational biblical principles, while others have criticized it as a step backward in the fight for equality. For a faith audience, the policy reaffirms the Scriptural understanding of humanity’s design, sparking renewed conversations about the intersection of faith, governance, and cultural values.
