Grief has a way of shaping our spiritual lives, forcing us to confront the questions we often leave unspoken. For actress Lauren London, the loss of her fiancé, Nipsey Hussle, in 2019, became a catalyst for deepening her relationship with God.

In a recent interview on the podcast A Really Good Cry, London candidly discussed her spiritual journey, her struggles with prayer, and her ongoing effort to remain connected to God.

In the conversation titled "Moving Through Grief and Finding Self-Acceptance," London, now 39, opened up about how her childhood faith roots have blossomed into a deeper understanding of God’s grace, even in the midst of sorrow. “I always felt very connected to God early on,” she shared with host Radhi Devlukia. “As time is evolving, I realize that a lot of it was God’s grace and love over me, just to have this tenacity for service and connection with the Most High.”

London’s reflections reveal a woman who, despite her painful experiences, has found strength in recognizing that God was with her all along, guiding her through the storm. “When I look back on my testimony, just, where things weren’t going so well, but that I was still intact and I was okay…I’m like, wow, God was right there. I was actually really covered,” she said. This growing awareness of divine protection has anchored her faith.

Yet, London is refreshingly transparent about the fact that her spiritual practice wasn’t always so solid. “I didn’t have such a strong spiritual practice growing up,” she admitted. “I realize I was very connected to like crystals, very curious.” It’s a sentiment many can relate to—a desire to connect with the spiritual, but not always having had the knowledge or guidance to foster that connection early on. Despite these initial uncertainties, London’s faith has matured through the years, becoming a lifeline, particularly in times of overwhelming fear or uncertainty.

When asked how she speaks to God, London’s response was one of humility and vulnerability: “I still struggle with it too.”

She shared how she grew up watching her mother, though not particularly religious, kneel in gratitude every night. She also credited her aunt, a “prayer warrior” who has shown her the physical power of prayer, as a significant spiritual influence. “If it gets too rough, I go to my auntie’s house, and she gets to praying.”

But beyond structured rituals or witnessing others’ devotion, London has learned to maintain her own relationship with God through ongoing, honest communication. Thanks to her spiritual mentor, Reverend Michael, she discovered the concept of “affirmative prayer,” which doesn’t require formal postures or settings. It’s about being in “constant communication with God,” something she strives for today. London’s raw prayers often reflect her deepest fears: “I’m afraid right here. Show me that I’m okay. Show me that You love me. God, please remind me that You love me.”

However, her prayers aren’t always about seeking reassurance. At times, they are simply expressions of gratitude. “Sometimes, a prayer is just, ‘Thank You so much for my breath. Thank You so much for my protection today. Thank You so much that the kids made it home, you know?’”

London’s faith journey is a reminder that spiritual growth is not linear—it ebbs and flows. While she admits she’s still learning to communicate with God more consistently, her goal remains clear: “I would really like for God to be pleased. I’m not perfect, but I would just like to please God.”

In the end, Lauren London's testimony speaks to the power of perseverance in faith, even when the road is hard. Her story challenges us all to pursue a deeper, more authentic relationship with God. Whether through moments of fear, sorrow, or gratitude, London reminds us that prayer and communion with the divine are pathways to healing, even in our darkest seasons.

For Christian women navigating their own seasons of grief or struggle, London's journey offers a powerful reminder of God's unwavering presence and the transformative power of faith.
