It’s always sad to hear about a married couple parting ways. Tia, Cory, and their children are in our prayers as they make this difficult transition.

Our hearts broke over the confirmed news that Tia Mowry and Cory Hardrict have called it quits after 14 years of marriage.

Though the divorce announcement posted to 44-year-old Mowry’s Instagram Tuesday, October 4, came as a shock, in a recent post, the Sister, Sister actress hinted at a big change.

“There’s two things we can control in life: our attitude and our effort. And as hard as it is to accept all the things we cannot control and to let go…sometimes we have to in order to grow,” said the former Disney Channel star who filed for divorce in Los Angeles citing “irreconcilable differences.”

The famous twin added in the telling message, “I am making a commitment to love myself fiercely and unconditionally,” while reminding fans, “You are enough. You deserve love. And you deserve to be understood for who you truly are.”

Mowry and 42-year-old Hardrict, both working actors, met while filming Hollywood Horror in 2000. After dating for six years, the pair got engaged on Christmas Day, jumped the broom in 2008, and renewed their vows in 2013.

When breaking the news about the shocking split, Mowry wrote on social media, “I have always been honest with my fans, and today is no different. I wanted to share that Cory and I have decided to go our separate ways. These decisions are never easy, and not without sadness.”

She continued, “We will maintain a friendship as we co-parent our beautiful children.”

In her divorce filing, Mowry requested joint physical and legal custody of their two children—son Cree, 11, and daughter Cairo, 4—and asked the judge to terminate spousal support, noting that there is a prenup in place.

Mowry and Hardrict have long been transparent about their marriage hardships but chose to fight for their love.

During a 2017 appearance on OWN’s Black Love, Mowry said, “There are times when I’m like, wow, last year was pretty tough. But this year, it’s good that we stuck to it, or we continued to be there for one another, or had patience with one another and worked out whatever issues or difficulties that we were having, because that next year is a completely different year and an even better year.”

Hardrict chimed in, “Every year seems to get better.” The then happy wife said, “I fall more, more, and more in love with him. I really do.”

Though things did not pan out the way the two hoped, Mowry ended her statement about the breakup on a positive note. “I am grateful for all the happy times we had together and want to thank my friends, family and fans for your love and support as we start this new chapter moving forward in our lives,” she said.
