Gospel singer Le’Andria Johnson says she is ‘now divorced’ but ‘will be alright’

Grammy-winning gospel singer Le'Andria Johnson posted on social media that she is “now divorced” but “will be alright.”
Though the “Better Days” songstress did not name her ex-husband in her Dec. 5th Instagram post, according to official documents from Fulton County Superior Court, Judge Ural Glanville granted her a divorce from Michael Underwood in August of this year, her fourth ex-husband.
Johnson, 37, who has been candid about her issues with alcoholism and failed marriages, rose to fame after winning season three of the BET gospel singing competition Sunday Best. When auditioning for the show, the then mother of three had already gone through her second divorce and was homeless.
Despite her struggles, Johnson’s soulful voice and charisma captivated the judges and audience, and she went on to chart-topping musical success.

That career success, however, has often been overshadowed by her personal failures. In 2013, Johnson wed Forrest Walker and publicly documented his infidelity on Oxygen’s Preachers of Atlanta docuseries.
Following her split from Walker, Johnson and Underwood tied the knot before parting ways. Now, months after finalizing the divorce, she is feeling ready to open up to the public in preparation for the release of new music.
In a 2018 TV One interview, Johnson opened up too by disclosing that she entered her first marriage at the young age of 20, when she was “still a baby.” At the time, she said that marriage taught her “not to do it again,” though she would go on to give marriage multiple tries.
Now that Johnson is starting a new chapter once again, she is leaning on her fan base and being honest about who and where she is in her life. In her social media post announcing her divorce, Johnson admitted she “is not perfect,” and “has and will make mistakes.”
In spite of being perceived as a controversial figure by some in the church, Johnson has major support. Her online confession elicited a slew of positive responses, leading her to thank fans for their kindness in a follow-up post saying, “The love is really felt.”
Love and compassion has flowed toward her for years, but especially in 2019, when Johnson appeared on a two-part episode of OWN’s Iyanla: Fix My Life, where she allowed viewers a raw look inside her struggle to overcome alcohol addiction.
In September of last year, she celebrated nine months of sobriety, and the faith community has been praying for her strength going forward.
