Christian singer and actress Jordin Sparks says she is “still reeling” with excitement over her triumphant return to the Broadway Stage.
The GRAMMY® Award-winning American Idol alum, who made her Broadway debut in 2010’s The Heights, took the stage as Jenna Hunterson in Waitress on Monday, September 16, and she is over-the-moon about it.
“Still reeling over my opening night in Waitress,” wrote the “No Air” crooner on social media. “Wow. There’s nothing like it. Thank you so much to this incredible supportive cast! I love being at the diner!”
Waitress, which was made into a 2007 film starring Keri Russell, tells the story of a waitress and pie-maker trapped in a small-town diner and a loveless marriage.
Sparks assumed the role from Alison Luff and will star in the limited engagement Sara Bareilles–Jessie Nelson musical through October 27.
Although the 29-year-old is excited and grateful for the opportunity, she admits that it is “a huge commitment. It’s a lot to learn.”
In a one-on-one with UInterview, she said, “When I first got here and everything was kind of laid out in front of me as to what I was really tackling, I looked at my husband, and I was like, ‘I don’t know if I can do this.’”
The busy wife of Dana Isaiah, Sr. and mom of one-year-old Dana Isaiah, Jr. has a lot on her plate. But with prayer and a supportive family and network, she has able to rise to the occasion.
We’re so proud of you Jordan. Congratulations!
