Cancer research leader taps Yolanda Adams, Alicia Keys to honor philanthropist Sylvia Rhone

City of Hope, a world-renowned independent research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases, has called upon GRAMMY® Award-winning singers Yolanda Adams, Alicia Keys and more to honor decorated philanthropist, Sylvia Rhone.

67-year-old Rhone, Chairman and CEO of Epic Records and one of the most successful executives in the music industry, will receive the organization’s highest honor, The Spirit of Life® Award.

“I'm honored to receive The Spirit of Life Award and proud to be included in such a distinguished group of past honorees,” Rhone said in a statement obtained by EEW Magazine Online.

The award—one of the most prestigious in the music business— has been given to such noted figures as Jon Platt, Clive Davis, Quincy Jones, Shelli and Irving Azoff, Doug Morris, and others.  It will be presented at a gala dinner on Thursday, Oct. 10, which will be attended by the who’s who of the entertainment world.

Rhone continued, “City of Hope's extraordinary commitment and unparalleled approach to cancer and diabetes research and discovery of life-changing medical breakthroughs has impacted so many lives. I’m humbled to become part of such a heartfelt, inspiring mission and personally gratified to support its groundbreaking vision.”

Founded in 1913, Los Angeles-based City of Hope Hospital is a leader in bone marrow transplantation and immunotherapy and a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.

Adams, a Houston native and five-time GRAMMY® Award-winning artist, frequently lends her illustrious voice to good causes and is known as an inspirational figure in the faith community and beyond.

Keys, is a fifteen-time GRAMMY® Award-winning musician, also recognized for her own passionate philanthropy work, acting and socially conscious music.

The Spirit of Life® Award gala, with its perfectly-blended focus on music entertainment, philanthropy and influence, is sure to make for a magical evening.
