Dr. Tony Evans gives update on wife, says pray that ‘God would either heal Lois or take her home’

Dr. Tony Evans and millions of people around the world are praying and believing God to heal his wife, First Lady Lois Evans, from cancer. But the pastor is telling everyone, he is willing to accept whatever God’s will is.

In a social media post shared Monday, December 23, 2019, he wrote, “Please pray specifically with us that God would either heal Lois or take her home. We do not want her to live in pain.”

As previously reported by EEW Magazine Online, earlier this year, the beloved pastor’s wife was diagnosed with a recurrence of a rare gallbladder cancer that came back after she was cancer-free for a while. At this point, without a miraculous healing, it is clear that the 70-year-old woman of faith will soon be laid to rest.

“At the least, your prayers have bought us time,” said Dr. Evans, 70, in a video message first shared Sunday at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, the Texas-based ministry he and his wife co-founded.

He explained, “The doctors said almost eight weeks ago that we had a couple of days, maybe a couple of weeks. Well, it’s eight weeks later, and Sister Evans is still here. And even though things look like they’re closing out on this side of heaven, your prayers have given us time.”

Dr. Evans, a best-selling author whose faith teachings reach the masses globally, said, “We believe God is a miracle-working God,” and added, “But at the same time, we do not want to prolong any unnecessary suffering.”

Together, Pastor and Lady Evans are a force and have built a thriving mega ministry. They reach millions of people around the world through The Urban Alternative—a Christian broadcast and teaching ministry launched in 1982 that is heard on more than 1,200 radio stations in over 130 different countries.

Now, Dr. Evans is asking those who have received help, comfort, and encouragement through their ministry to intercede for his family. “Will you join me in praying that the Lord will give Lois great peace at this time?” he asked in the caption of his update video.

“We continue to believe in the power of prayer and do not underestimate God’s power to heal, nor do we deny his ability to comfort hurting hearts. Also pray that God will give us, as her family, grace, wisdom, and comfort as we walk with my wife through this season. Your prayers are appreciated and needed. They mean a lot to me, and to all of us, right now,” he said.

In the footage containing never-before-shared details of his wife’s condition, Dr. Evans said, she is hurting and “has been for a while.”

He went on, “And I don’t want to be so selfish that I would prolong the groaning out of my desire for her not to leave me, the family, or you, and just continue to bear the groaning of this body when something better awaits. Regularly at night now, she’s calling the name Jesus—most recently, Jesus and His word. She’s asked people to read Scripture to her, so she’s consumed with Jesus.”

After mentioning that his ailing wife is consumed with Jesus, with a slight smile, Dr. Evans asked, “And isn’t that what Christmas is all about?”

As you celebrate the joy of this beautiful season with your family, we ask that you join this publication’s editorial staff and entire administrative team in lifting up the Evans family in prayer.
