Kevin Hart, this generation’s most successful comedian, got serious while reflecting on a devastating car crash that could have taken his life.

“I’m thankful for God,” he said after suffering a serious back injury when the vintage muscle car he was riding in crashed nearly two months ago in California.

“No matter how much you think you’re in control, you’re not in control,” said the 40-year-old in a video posted Tuesday night on Instagram, thanking his family, friends, and supporters for loving him and sticking by his side through it all.

“In this case, I honestly feel like God basically told me to sit down. You know, when you’re moving too fast, and you’re doing too much, sometimes you can’t see the things that you’re meant to see,” Hart continued, showing footage of himself struggling to walk and doing physical therapy with a scar on his back.

He added, “But after my accident, I see things differently. I see life from a whole new perspective. My appreciation for life is through the roof.”

The California Highway Patrol said the man driving Hart’s 1970 Plymouth Barracuda accelerated recklessly and lost control on Sept. 1. The car careened down an embankment and slammed into a tree. No one was wearing seatbelts.

This is the first time the megawatt celebrity opened up about his 10-day hospital stay, along with his long and painful road to recovery.

“Don’t take today for granted,” he said, “because tomorrow’s not promised. More importantly, I’m thankful for God. I’m thankful for life.”

He said he is looking forward to “an amazing 2020.”
