Devotion: Wait in faith
By Dianna Hobbs // EEW Devotions // YourDailyCupofInspiration.com
I’ve told you before about the time I was once robbed in New York City. I was at LaGuardia Airport, on my way home from a speaking engagement. Someone stole my cellphone.
It happened so fast; I couldn't believe it! I turned around for what felt like two seconds and someone snatched up my device. To make matters worse, the flight I had just exited was delayed, causing me to miss my connecting flight. That meant I was stuck in the airport until the next available flight, which would be hours later.
Four hours.
Sigh.
The airline staff did their best to find the earliest flight out, but everything was booked. They gave me a food voucher, an apology and a smile, but there wasn’t much else they could do.
As I wheeled my carry-on suitcase behind me, walking on sore feet, I could have broken down crying right there on the spot. I needed to call my husband Kenya and notify him that I had been robbed and would be arriving late. I walked around until I found a payphone, rummaged around in my purse for some quarters, and rang him up.
“Did anyone else see what happened?” Kenya asked me about the robbery.
“No,” I told him sadly. “I asked around. But no one saw anything.”
Witnesses are critical to solving crimes and validating claims. In John 8:12-18, we see Jesus making a perfectly valid claim of being “the light of the world,” but the Pharisees told Him the claim wasn’t valid because He had no other witness than Himself.
In verses 17-18, Jesus said, “In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is true. I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me.”
Though the Pharisees rejected Jesus and did not put faith in Him as the Messiah Christ’s word was no less valid. He didn’t need any additional witnesses to give credence to what He said. It was sad, however, that the stubborn Pharisees chose not to accept Christ. They remained in their darkness of doubt by refusing to embrace the Light of the World standing right in front of them.
Friend, doubt is a thief. But faith causes you to reap rewards. When you believe in God’s word and trust in His promises, nothing can hold you back or rob you from getting all God has for you. When you remain confident in Him, you will receive what is promised.
Hebrews 6:13-15 says, “When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, ‘I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.’ And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.”
Let me reiterate what we just read: Abraham believed and waited, and at the set time, the promise was received.
So then, the key to receiving a breakthrough is waiting in faith. It might not happen overnight, but wait in faith. You might not see any improvement yet, but wait in faith. The door might still be closed, but wait in faith. You might hurt for a season, but wait in faith. It might look bad for the moment, but wait in faith.
God will do it, because His claims are valid. He swears by Himself that He will bless you! He needs no other person to testify on His behalf. And yet, there many witnesses that can testify to His greatness and His faithfulness.
I am one of them!
God is faithful to deliver you; faithful to rescue you; faithful to provide for you; faithful to make ways; faithful to open doors. Trust in His faithfulness.
While you’re waiting for Him to show up in your situation, don’t fret. Stay in faith. Believe His promises. And you will see Him do just what He said.
To help you cling to faith while you’re waiting, I’m stirring Hebrews 10:23 ISV into your cup of inspiration, which says, “Let us continue to hold firmly to the hope that we confess without wavering, for the one who made the promise is faithful.”
As you drink down the contents of your cup, remember there is no failure in God. He cannot lie. He will make good on every word He has spoken. You can count on Him.
Now let’s pray.
God, I don’t see how You’re going to make the way or bring Your word to pass in my life, but I trust that You will. So while I await manifestation, I will cling to faith in Your unchanging, unfailing word. I thank You in advance and I call it done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
