How did I get here?

This wasn’t supposed to happen to me.

I thought my life would play out much differently.

Why me?

Have you ever thought or said one of these things? I know I have, especially when I got sick. When I felt like I was looking up at rock bottom I was both saddened and stunned by my new reality. The vision I had for my life was shattered. Everything seemed to be a scattered mess.

I could no longer minister and help people. I couldn’t do anything to contribute financially to our household. I lost any sense of natural security I had. Medical bills piled up and ate into our savings. I couldn’t take care of my children or fulfill any of my wifely duties. I felt useless. I was convinced it was the worst season I had ever been through and one from which I would never recover.

Have you ever gone through a world-shattering experience that left you distraught, confused and devastated over how it could have all gone so wrong, too? Even though God said He will never leave nor forsake us, have you, like me, ever felt left alone and forsaken? Overlooked and forgotten?

A little more than a year ago, just about every day, it was Satan’s routine to torment me mentally. He told me life was over and things would never get better. Some days, it was hard not to believe his lies, particularly because all the evidence backed up the enemy’s claims.

I felt somewhat like the widow of Zeraphath in 1 Kings 17. In the middle of a severe drought, she became convinced that she and her son would both die. According to verse 12, she only had a little bit of flour, olive oil and some water. She was preparing to make her last meal, split it with her son and wait for her dying day to arrive.

There was no evidence that her situation could or would improve. But no matter how bad it looked, God had a plan for a turnaround. When the Lord sent the prophet Elijah to the widow to ask for water and bread, she fulfilled that request and opened herself up to receive a big blessing. God saw to it that the jar of flour she had was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry until the day the Lord sent rain.

Friend, if God could preserve and bless this poor, desolate widow, He can preserve and bless you. In lean times, dark seasons and difficult moments, believe God for breakthrough. He’s going to make a way for you.

The same God that supernaturally provided in Bible days will provide for you this day. Your need may be financial, physical, emotional, mental, relational, or spiritual. No matter what it is, He already has a plan. He has the solution to your problem, whatever it may be. It’s not too complicated for Him!

Trust Him. Again, He will provide for you.

Remember Jeremiah 17:7 NIV, which says, “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”

Blessings are tied to your trust and confidence in the Lord. Even if the way is not immediately clear, trust the Lord and He will bring His word to pass. He will take care of you, work things out for your good and get you to the place you need to be.
