Excited Priscilla Shirer announces that fundraising efforts for Ugandan charity 'Watoto' exceeds its goals
A well-known Bible teacher had the goal of being outrageously generous to a Christian charity and the results are astounding.
Bible teacher and best-selling author, Priscilla Shirer, who is using her platform to help vulnerable women and orphaned children in a big way, has been an even bigger blessing than anticipated.
The Going Beyond Ministries founder has already raised approximately $400,000 for Watoto, a holistic care program that rescues Ugandan women and children and positions them as future leaders of their nation. Her original goal was $250,000.
“I was just riding along, running some errands today and I just got a text message from Marilyn Skinner of Watoto Church and organization in Uganda. I pulled over off to the side of the road to tell you what she texted me,” shared an excited Shirer in an Instagram video Monday, May 21, 2018. “As of today, we have raised just about $400,000 for the outreach that Watoto is doing for the girls there.”
Several weeks ago, during her global simulcast that streamed her Bible teaching to thousands of women worldwide, she told participants that her goal for Watoto was “to be outrageously generous and to bless them big as they serve the people of Uganda.”
That goal was met and surpassed.
“Y’all, I was believing God for too little because I asked God for a quarter of a million and He has exceeded that through you by $150,000,” she said, stunned.
Now, after seeing the overwhelming response, Shirer is upping the goal to $500,000 to “change the lives of girls and women on that side of the world.”
Founded by Senior Pastors Gary and Marilyn Skinner, Watoto is birthed through Watoto Church, a thriving local church in Kampala, Uganda, with a goal to rescue 10,000 children in Uganda by 2023.
Watoto provides physical care, housing, food, medical intervention including HIV/AIDS treatment, education - formal and vocational, counselling for emotional well-being, as well as moral and spiritual discipleship to the ones the Bible calls “the least of these” in Matthew 25:40.
Shirer is determined to help the poor, widowed, and overlooked through a major fundraising push and is encouraging others to join in.
“If you haven’t joined in yet, come on y’all. Let’s do it and let’s do it big,” she said.
