Place your hope in God! 6 scriptures to instantly lift your head and activate your faith when life throws a curveball

Loving Jesus doesn’t insulate us from trouble. Sometimes, we lose the job, get sick, experience heartbreak, see loved ones die, and feel helpless as we watch everything go wrong.

But we are not helpless, nor are we victims. Romans 8:37 says we are more than conquerors through Christ. But we have to believe this, despite our circumstances.

If life has thrown you an unexpected curveball and your faith is a bit shaken, here are 6 empowering scriptures to build you up.

Mark 11:24 (NIV) - “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

When the bad news is overwhelming, let prayer be your first resort, not last. Pray in faith, and have hope that the fulfillment of your prayer is on its way. When you seek God, you are not just asking for something, you are trusting that, according to God’s sovereign plan, it is done.

Philippians 4:19 (NIV) - “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

If money is low, if your heart is broken, if your kids are acting up, if your marriage is crumbling, if your health has gone down, God is there to supply all your needs—physical, financial, mental, spiritual, and emotional. Don’t get discouraged if you’re stuck in unfavorable circumstances; God has already made a way for you.

Psalms 9:10 (NIV) - “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.”

Even when you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, remember that the Light, Jesus Christ, is in you and for you as you journey through the darkness. Go hard after God, and you will sense His strengthening power, sweet spirit, and abiding presence with you always.

Romans 8:28 (NKJV) - “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

No matter how bad things are, they must work for your good. Even when you are crying, hurting, and feeling broken, know that God is using your situation to set you up for more blessings. It will all be okay. In the end, you will be stronger, wiser, and better.

1 Thessalonians 5:24 (NLV) - “God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.”

If God has promised that your breakthrough is coming, expect it. Even if your back is against the wall, trust the Lord to knock down that very wall. Nothing can hinder Him from doing what He has decided to do. He can be trusted to faithfully make good on His word.

Romans 15:13 (NLT) - “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Emphasis here is on confident hope. We are not hoping in the sense of it might happen, rather, we are hoping in the sense of it hasn’t happened yet. Be confident that your breakthrough will come to pass in God’s perfect timing. That kind of trust will fill you with supernatural peace and joy as you wait for the manifestation of your breakthrough.

Prayer: God I wasn’t expecting this affliction. However, Your word says there will be many afflictions, but You will deliver us out of them all. Thank You for Your delivering power and for keeping me strong in faith through Your word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
