In the heart of Brooklyn, New York, lived a young woman named Sheena Harris. Born into a world where addiction and incarceration were the norms, Sheena's early life was a struggle for survival. As a latchkey child of a crack-addicted mother and an absent, incarcerated father, her life was a series of trials that seemed insurmountable.

By the tender age of twenty-one, life's harsh realities had taken a toll on Sheena. She was not only a single mother of two daughters, fathered by men who chose to abandon their responsibilities, but she was also caught in the same vicious cycle of addiction that had consumed her mother.

However, a divine encounter on the gritty streets of Brooklyn was about to change the trajectory of Sheena's life. An older missionary, a beacon of hope in her stormy world, introduced her to the love and salvation of Jesus Christ. The seeds of faith were planted that day, and this marked the beginning of Sheena's transformative journey.

That older missionary is my mother, and Sheena remains one of our family’s closest friends who is active in ministry and regularly witnesses to others. Sheena’s story of struggle has become an inspiring tale of redemption and a message for every Christian about the power of sharing Christ with others in their darkest hours and leading them to the Light of the World.

Sheena’s story is not unique.

There are many people all around us every day that need hope and a second chance that only Jesus can provide. If you need incentives for sharing your faith, your testimony of redemption, and the love of Christ with others, EEW Magazine Online is offering 5 compelling reasons to be a witness for the Lord.

 1. Witnessing is an act of obedience.

Christians are commanded by Jesus in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) to go and make disciples of all nations. Sharing the good news of Christ is an essential aspect of obedience to His command.

2. Witnessing reflects God's love.

God's love for us is immeasurable, and He desires that everyone should come to know Him (2 Peter 3:9). By sharing the message of Christ's compassion and power to transform with others, we actively demonstrate God’s unwavering love and commitment to the lost.

3. Witnessing helps you grow spiritually.

Witnessing can lead to spiritual growth for both the one sharing and the one receiving the message. Engaging in conversations about faith challenges us to grow deeper in our understanding of Scripture, lead by example, and intentionally live our faith out loud in order to plant seeds in others' hearts.

4. Witnessing is an opportunity to testify.

Do you know that your personal experiences with Christ have a deeply profound impact on others? By sharing your testimony of redemption and freedom, you provide tangible evidence of how Jesus can transform lives. Your experience acts as inspiration and encouragement for others who may also be searching for hope.

5. Witnessing is an act of Christ-like compassion.

The Word of God teaches us to show compassion towards those who are struggling in life without knowing God's grace and forgiveness. Witnessing gives us an opportunity to extend hope and healing through the power of Jesus Christ, expressing the compassionate heart of our Savior.

As ambassadors for Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), we must never miss an opportunity to share His immense love, grace, and transformative power with those who need it most – the lost, hurting, and broken people around us.

As you continue on your faith journey, may you be inspired and encouraged by these five reasons to always be ready and willing to share the love of Christ with others.
