A malady is a chronic, deep-seated disease, disorder, or ailment. It can be a social condition like poverty or a spiritual condition that is at the root of bondage and depravity.

Maladies cause dysfunction and disruption, distress and desperation, affliction and addiction—all sorts of problems—in the lives of those impacted by them.

I have had more than my fair share of physical maladies in my lifetime. Diseases passed down through my bloodline, Autoimmune disorders, freak accidents, and more recently, mental health challenges triggered by a rare medical emergency.

Someone recently asked me, “How have you gone through all the hard stuff you have been through, even almost dying more than once, and still stay full of faith?”

I get that question a lot, and it always causes me to think back on the maladies and malfunctions I have endured and overcome by God’s grace. One thing that keeps me going is remembering my history and how God has on many occasions turned my maladies into miracles, my messes into messages, my tragedies into triumphs, and my tests into testimonies.

Not only that, but He has turned the worst moments of my life into the greatest evidence of His power and favor at work in me. I have learned over the years that oftentimes the malady is just a setup for the miraculous!

This was proven in the life of the lame beggar sitting at the entrance of a gate called Beautiful in Acts 3. When Peter and John were on their way to an afternoon prayer service, the man asked them for money as was his custom. Rather than offer a handout to comfort him in his malady, Peter offered a hand up to facilitate a miracle.

“Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk” (v. 6).

When Peter took the man by the right hand, his feet and ankles suddenly got strong—and the rest is history!

Friend, when people saw that formerly lame man in the temple courts, walking, jumping, and praising God, they were astonished.

In that moment, Peter saw a great opportunity to gather the crowd and preach the gospel to them which is precisely what he did. In verse 12, Peter asked his fellow Israelites, “Why does this surprise you?”—making reference to the miraculous healing.

Peter then took that occasion when they had a visible, tangible manifestation of a miracle to explain that the miracle was produced by the power of none other than Jesus Christ who was crucified and then rose from the dead.

The malady simply provided a means by which God could get the glory and show off His mighty power.

Somebody reading today is about to get the kind of miracle that the the lame beggar got—the kind that money cannot buy and man cannot manufacture! God is about to be glorified in your life. When He turns your malady into a miracle, don’t be surprised. He just wants you to know that He is the Lord, the creator and sustainer of the universe, for whom nothing is impossible.

Your health is turning around. Your finances are increasing. Broken relationships are mending. Elevation is coming. God is about to make a good example out of you.

An example of His power. An example of His favor. An example of His sovereignty. And an example of how all things are possible to those that believe!

I don’t know what your malady is, but I know who the miracle-worker is. He is the same Jesus that raised me up out of my hospital bed in 2019 after a mini stroke. The same Jesus that instantly reversed paralysis so I could walk again. The same Jesus that suddenly loosed my tongue so I could speak again. The same Jesus that has given me the ability to function and serve the Body of Christ for His glory despite having a traumatic brain injuy.

This Jesus is loosing you from your affliction. Believe it today!

This is your season to see the miraculous. To help you get your faith up, I’m stirring Luke 1:37 ESV into your cup of inspiration, which says, “For nothing will be impossible with God.”

As you drink down the contents of your cup, God is getting you ready for the season of the turnaround in your life. A new day is dawning. Prepare for great things to come.
