I will not be getting my freak on. I will not be going to the club. I will not be watching pornography. And I will not be sad about it—even if society does try to tell me I’m lonely, out-of-touch and in desperate need of some more adventure.
No thank you, world. I am an unashamed, Bible-believing daughter of the King, or you can just call me a proud prude.
And hey, even if you struggle to keep your impure thoughts in check and your lust-loving flesh fights daily to live on the edge, and take a walk on the wild side, God’s word has enough power to sustain you.
EEW Magazine Online invites you to add these 10 go-to scriptures that espouse purity, modesty and holiness, to your list of must-read-and-apply Bible verses.
Here we go:
Be God-honoring: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”
Run, Girl: 1 Corinthians 6:18 – “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.”
Kill it: Colossians 3:5 –“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.”
Focus on the good: Philippians 4:8 – “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Elevate your thoughts: Colossians 3:1-2 –“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.”
Study the Word: Joshua 1:8 –“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”
Stand Out: Romans 12:1-2 – “And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Embrace Modesty: 1 Peter 3:4 – “Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”
Fear the Lord: Proverbs 31:30 – “Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.”
Walk Worthy: Ephesians 4:1 – “Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.”
Contrary to contemporary opinions, holiness never goes out of style and the principles in God’s word are applicable for every generation. Meditate on these principles and ask God to sanctify you daily with His word.
We all need Him every day and every hour in order to live clean, holy, set-apart lives.
