Come on and strike your best pose, sis. You’re royalty. Let’s face it. It’s good to hear and be reminded of that in the glittering world of Hollywood, where the "nepo baby," short for "nepotism baby," seems to be winning everything.

In case you’ve been living under a big rock, let EEW Magazine Online quickly refresh you on the whole nepo baby drama that has ignited discussions around dinner tables and across social feeds.

Girl, what is a nepo baby?

For centuries, the children of the affluent and influential have been the recipients of an unspoken inheritance—access to the inner circles of power, prestige, and prosperity. From inheriting monarchies and corporate empires to basking in the residual glow of parental stardom, these nepo babies often enjoy a head start on the path to success. It's the age-old story of legacy, where the family name opens doors, and in some instances, the offspring surpass their predecessors in fame and fortune.

This tacit transfer of opportunity has introduced a fresh wave of scrutiny over the past few years, as fans and critics alike come to realize that the glittering stars they admire may shine brightly not merely due to their own talent but also because of the unseen hand of family connections.

Unfair advantage or nah?

In an entertainment industry where lineage can be as crucial as talent, the ecosystem isn't entirely founded on meritocracy. This revelation has divided public opinion, with some defending the practice as a natural parental desire to set the next generation up for success and others decrying it as an unfair advantage in an already competitive field.

Can nepotism be made into a spiritual concept?

The concept of nepotism in its latest iteration in cultural vernacular points to an interesting parallel in the spiritual realm. As believers, we are the ultimate "nepo babies," blessed with an incomparable legacy through our Heavenly Father.

This spiritual nepotism challenges the argument that we are disadvantaged because of low status, since we are heirs to an incorruptible fortune that has been granted through adoption into the royal family of God, surpassing any earthly fame or wealth.

Today, EEW Magazine Online is exploring 8 ways our status as God's "nepo babies" enriches our lives, each illuminated by scripture.

 #1 Unconditional Love and Acceptance

"The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, 'Abba, Father.'" (Romans 8:15-17)

Some nepo babies feel pressured to live up to a certain standard as not to shame the family name. On the other hand, as daughters of the Most High, we are embraced with a love that is unfailing and are not expected to be perfect. Our identity is rooted not in our achievements or failures but in our divine adoption as children of God.

#2 Infinite Resources at Our Disposal

"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)

Our Father is the richest of the rich, owner of all creation, and His resources are limitless. As His heirs, we can trust that our needs will be met, not out of scarcity, but from His abundance.

#3 Guidance and Wisdom

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." (James 1:5)

Need advice and guidance on how to advance in your life’s purpose? God offers us wisdom that is always pure, right, true, and leads to the desired end. Unlike the world's often misguided counsel—even from well-meaning, famous, and powerful connections—we have access to our Father’s inerrant and inexhaustible wisdom simply by asking.

#4 Protection and Defense

"But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one." (2 Thessalonians 3:3)

Just as influential parents shield their children, our Heavenly Father provides protection against natural and spiritual adversaries, offering us a safe haven. He even guarantees through His word  that “no weapon formed against us will prosper” (Isaiah 54:17)—something no earthly father can promise.

 #5 Opportunities and Open Doors

"I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut." (    Revelation 3:8)

God orchestrates opportunities for us that no human connection could arrange. He opens doors that lead to blessings and growth, tailored to our divine purpose. He moves obstacles out of our way and turns the hearts of powerful men and women in our favor. Our Father is always pulling strings behind the scenes.

 #6 Healing and Restoration

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." (Psalm 147:3)

Lifestyles of the rich and famous come with their share of pain just like anyone else’s life. Where spiritual nepotism trumps natural nepotism in this regard is that emotional and physical healing is part of our inheritance. Where the world offers temporary fixes, God provides deep and lasting restoration for our souls, healing us everywhere we hurt.

#7 Advocacy and Intercession

"My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.” (1 John 2:1)

In times of weakness or missteps, we are not left to fend for ourselves. When the world tries to crucify us for our mistakes, Jesus, our brother, who was crucified and rose to take away our sin and shame, advocates on our behalf, ensuring grace is extended to us.

#8 Eternal Inheritance

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!...and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you." (1 Peter 1:3-4)

Fame fades. Achievements are quickly forgotten. Wealth is easily lost. But our spiritual nepotism secures an eternal legacy, one that transcends the temporal and is preserved forever in heaven. No one and nothing can ever take it away.

As you see, God's "nepo babies" are afforded privileges that surpass the material and ephemeral. Our inheritance is not just for the here and now but extends into eternity.

Although the term "nepo baby" will probably continue to carry mixed connotations in the secular sphere, let it serve as a reminder for us of our blessed position in the Kingdom of God as chosen, loved, and favored.
