At the time of writing, deaths from the coronavirus in the U.S. have soared to more than 2,200 a day on average, matching the peak reached last April.

Cases per day have eclipsed 200,000 on average for the first time on record, with the crisis likely to get worse because of the fallout from gatherings at Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s.

Dr. Michael Ryan, the World Health Organization’s chief of emergencies, says, “The epidemic in the U.S. is punishing. It’s widespread. It’s quite frankly shocking to see one to two persons a minute die in the U.S. — a country with a wonderful, strong health system, amazing technological capacities.”

Because coronavirus and its impact on those with weak immunity is a widespread issue and a global epidemic, wearing a mask is critical to helping stop the spread of this deadly virus.

This is why EEW Magazine Online is offering 5 reasons why you should wear a mask.

#1 To be considerate of others. As a Christian, you are to be your brothers’ and sisters’ keeper. Consider the millions of people with weakened immune systems and underlying conditions that make the coronavirus more deadly for them. Think about the fact that by wearing a mask, you can protect the elderly and those with comorbidities from contracting the virus. Scripture teaches us to esteem the needs of others above our own.

#2 To be part of the solution. Do you want to be part of the problem or solution? Do you want to help others or hurt them? Do you want to see more death or less? If you’re interested in creating positive outcomes and not worsening this already critical issue, make a decision to be a part of the solution. Though you can’t cure all the ills of society, and you don’t have the power to altogether stop the virus, you can contribute to the overall health and well-being of others by wearing a mask.

#3 Out of respect for the wisdom of scientists and experts. God has blessed us with highly intelligent scientists and experts that have done extensive research. They understand infectious diseases and virus trends. When they warn us and instruct us, it’s better to take heed than not. The prideful and egomaniacal think no one can tell them anything. But the wise walk in humility and listen to the warnings and advice of others with greater understanding and clarity on specific issues.

#4 Because it’s your duty. Many Americans have lost jobs, businesses, financial security and loved ones because of the devastation caused by the pandemic. As one who is called to help those in need, you have a duty to do what is within your power to repair what is broken, and rise to the occasion this moment demands. If wearing a mask, avoiding large gatherings, and remaining six feet apart from others while out and about can help stop the spread of coronavirus, there is no question that you should do it.

#5 Because it’s right. Whatever your personal philosophy or feelings on wearing a mask, it’s hard to argue against caring for your fellowman and doing your part to be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem. Wearing a mask is the right thing to do because it’s helpful, necessary and compassionate.

As you wear a mask and take care of others, don’t forget to pray for our nation and our world. Ask God to let there be healing, restoration, unity and love flowing in abundance.
